The George Roberts award is given to a student who has shown great growth over his or her middle school years. The diversity score of West Middle School is 0.44, which is less than the diversity score at state average of 0.60. Their unselfishness is an example for us all. West Middle School is ranked within the top 20 of all 1,783 schools in Colorado (based off of combined math and reading proficiency testing data) for the 2018-19 school year. They have touched so many lives, not just of the people who they took in, but also the people that have had the privilege of getting to know Mr. He and his wife, Katie, were foster parents to hundreds of children and young adults. He treated each and every person with respect and made them feel that they were special and very important. He was very demanding of his students, but he did it in a loving manner. Roberts also taught his students about how people should treat each other. He brought enthusiasm and excitement to every lesson he taught. He was a great educator in the field of Science and made science real and meaningful for his students. He worked endlessly to make sure all students would feel some success and be able to feel good about themselves and their abilities.

Twenty-first century skills and the importance of building relationships are promoted by our highly qualified staff. Our welcoming and positive school culture is supported by an active parent group (PAWS). Students’ extra-curricular activities such as interscholastic athletics, Jazz Band, Student Council, Builders Club, Robotics, Coding for Girls, Mathcounts, Knowledge Bowl, Star-base, and an after-school cultural program provide opportunities for teambuilding, new skills, and friendships. Our students also choose from a variety of electives including physical education, art, band, orchestra, choir, technology, family and consumer science, and health.

Within these walls, students learn science, math, reading/language arts, and social studies.
